I've been hesitant to write about some of the things going on lately simply because I needed the time to work things out through my own head and emotions. My grandma passed away April 9th and my great grandma (my grandpa's mom) passed away a week later on the 16th. My grandma's viewing and funeral service wasn't until the 22nd and 24th due to the unknown cause of death. So they had to do an autopsy. My family is still waiting to find out what the coroner determined.
My husband and I and lil John took a trip back to cali... we left the evening of the 20th after John got home from work. It was a long drive with an almost 2 year old and myself being 18 wks pregnant. We didn't arrive in Fresno until early on the 22nd. So I managed a few hours of sleep and went to my grandma's viewing. It was hard to be there at first. Once I saw her, it somehow made it easier. She wasn't coughing. She wasn't in pain. It was more of a relief. There were lots of tears, but mine was from the family that came together and was there for each other. My grandparents were married for over 43 years. The sadness and grief was put on pause for a lot of us when we went over to my grandpa's for lunch. We were all just hanging out like we used to. Thursday was spent running some errands and spending time with family. Friday was the funeral service. It was a beautiful service. My uncle (grandma's brother) put together a video of clips from my grandma's life. It was very well put together and certainly caused tears. After the funeral service we took my grandma's ashes to the cemetary to be buried with her mom. The entire family stayed and waited until she was covered and fully buried. After the service we went to my Uncle's house for food and family. Some of us decided to stay overnight there where we were able to sit in the spa and hang out. My brother decided after everyone went into the house that he was going to take John's car for a joyride (WITHOUT PERMISSION). I was woken up from my sleep so that we could find Ryan. John was so tired he wouldn't wake up. We eventually found him. We noticed he was gone around 11 or so and found him a lil after 12. Luckily he wasn't harmed and neither was anyone else. Saturday was laid back after John finally talked to Ryan. I got to look through a ton of pictures of when both my grandparents and my great grandparents when they were younger and growing up. I love seeing family pictures.
Sunday we began our drive back... which was rather uneventful. Thank goodness. Monday evening however we were already back in Texas...About 175 miles away from home when we got pulled over... We were going the speed limit and saw cop #37. We were counting cops to help give us something to do. We saw the cop pull out of his little spot where he was stopped after we passed. As soon as the lights came on behind us, Lil John said "Uh oh". It was priceless. Luckily it was just a warning for a license plate light not being on. We knew we weren't speeding so we were confused until the officer told us why he pulled us over. After we recieved the warning we couldn't help but laugh at both Lil John and the fact that cop 37 got us.
For those who might be curious... there were 35 cops between home in Texas and Fresno... and 40 between Fresno and home.
The trip itself was nice to get away for a lil while the circumstances however were unfortunate. My great grandma's funeral was here in Tx, but I couldn't handle going to 2 funerals in one week.
